SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
The notation ‘[NP]’ in a rule of the sailing instructions (SIs) means that a boat may not protest another boat for breaking that rule. This changes RRS 60.1.The notation ‘[DP]’ in a rule means the penalty for breaking this rule may, at the discretion of the jury, be more or less than a single disqualification. This changes Rule 60.5(c)
1 RULES
1.1 The event is governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing.
1.2 The Inland Lake Yachting Association (ILYA) C Scow Class Rules apply.
2 CHANGES TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
Any change to the sailing instructions will be posted before 0900 on the day it will take effect, except that any change to the schedule of races will be posted by 2000 on the day before it will take effect.
3 COMMUNICATIONS WITH COMPETITORS
3.1 The Official Notice Board is located inside the Erieau Yacht Club clubhouse.
3.2 [DP] All boats shall carry a VHF radio capable of communicating on channels 68 to 74.
3.3 On the water, the race committee may make courtesy broadcasts to competitors on VHF radio on channel 72.
3.4 [DP] While racing, except in an emergency, a boat shall not make voice or data transmissions and shall not receive voice or data communication that is not available to all boats.
4 CODE OF CONDUCT
4.1 [DP] Competitors and support persons shall comply with reasonable requests from race officials.
5 SIGNALS MADE ASHORE
5.1 Signals made ashore will be displayed at the flagpole.
5.2 When flag AP is displayed ashore, ‘1 minute’ is replaced with ‘not less than 30 minutes’ in Race Signals AP.
6 SCHEDULE OF RACES
6.1 Registration Date: June 13, 2026 From: 0800 hrs To: 1000 hrs
6.2 Dates of racing: June 13 and 14, 2026
6.3 Number of races: A total of seven races are scheduled. The maximum number of races per day is five.
6.4 The scheduled time of the warning signal for the first race is 1030 hrs on Saturday, June 13 and is 1000 hrs on Sunday June 14.
6.5 To alert boats that a race or sequence of races will begin soon, the orange starting line flag will be displayed with one sound at least five minutes before a warning signal is made.
6.6 On the last scheduled day of racing no warning signal will be made after 1200 hrs.
7 CLASS FLAGS
The C Scow Class flag for this regatta is the numeral three pennant.
8 RACING AREA
8.1 The racing area will be to the north of Erieau Yacht Club on Rondeau Bay and/or to the south of the town of Erieau on Lake Ontario.
9 COURSES
9.1 The course will be windward / leeward LA2.
10 MARKS
10.1 The marks that will be used are as follows:
The windward and leeward marks will be an orange tetrahedron.
The windward change mark will be a yellow cylinder.
The starting line will be between the signal boat and a red ball.
11 THE START
11.1 Races will be started using RRS 26.
11.2 Rule 30.1, I Flag Rule, is in effect for all starts, even though the I Flag itself will not be displayed. This changes Rule 30.1.
11.3 The starting line is between a staff displaying an orange flag on the signal vessel at the starboard end and the course side of the port-end starting mark.
11.4 If any part of a boat’s hull is on the course side of the starting line at her starting signal and she is identified, the race committee will attempt to broadcast her sail number on VHF channel 72.
11.5 A boat may not request redress based on the race committee’s failure to make a broadcast or to time it accurately. This changes RRS 61.1(a).
11.6 A boat that does not start within five minutes after her starting signal will be scored Did Not Start without a hearing. This changes RRS A5.
12 CHANGE OF THE NEXT LEG OF THE COURSE
12.1 To change the next leg of the course, the race committee will lay a new mark and remove the original mark as soon as practicable. When in a subsequent change a new mark is replaced, it will be replaced by an original mark.
13 THE FINISH
13.1 The finishing line is between a staff displaying a blue flag on the signal vessel at the starboard end and the course side of the port end finishing mark.
14 PENALTY SYSTEM
14.1 A boat may take a One Turn Penalty when she may have broken one or more rules of Part 2 in an incident while racing. However, when she may have broken one or more rules of Part 2 while in the zone around a mark (other than the starting mark), her penalty will be a Two-Turns Penalty. This changes Rules 44.1.
15 TIME LIMITS [AND TARGET TIMES] 15.1 The Mark 1 Time Limit, Race Time Limit (see RRS 35), and the Finishing Window are shown in the table below

15.2 If no boat has passed the first mark within the Mark 1 Time Limit, the race will be abandoned.
15.3 The Finishing Window is the time for boats to finish after the first boat sails the course. Boats failing to sail the course within the Finishing Window, will be scored Did Not Finish (DNF) without a hearing. This changes RRS 35, A5.1, and A5.2.
15.4 Failure to meet the Target Time will not be grounds for redress. This changes RRS 61.
16 HEARING REQUESTS
16.1 The protest time limit is 60 minutes after the last boat finishes the last race of the day or the race committee signals no more racing today, whichever is later. The time will be posted on the official notice board.
16.2 Hearing request forms are available from the race office in the club house.
16.3 Notices will be posted no later than 30 minutes after the protest time limit to inform competitors of hearings in which they are parties or named as witnesses.
16.4 Appendix T applies.
17 SAFETY REGULATIONS
17.1 Each day all boats shall check in with the signal boat (the barge) before the warning signal for the first race of that day by passing the stern of the signal boat and hailing her sail number.
17.2 [DP] A boat that retires from a race shall notify the race committee at the first reasonable opportunity.
18 REPLACEMENT OF CREW OR EQUIPMENT
18.1 [DP] Substitution of competitors is not allowed without prior written approval of the race chairman.
18.2 [DP] Substitution of damaged or lost equipment is not allowed unless authorized in writing by the race chairman. Requests for substitution shall be made to the race chairman at the first reasonable opportunity, which may be after the race.
19 TRASH DISPOSAL
19.1 Trash may be placed aboard the signal boat.
20 RISK STATEMENT
20.1 RRS 3 states: ‘The responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate in a race or to continue to race is hers alone.’ By participating in this event each competitor agrees and acknowledges that sailing is a potentially dangerous activity with inherent risks. These risks include strong winds and rough seas, sudden changes in weather, failure of equipment, boat handling errors, poor seamanship by other boats, loss of balance on an unstable platform and fatigue resulting in increased risk of injury. Inherent in the sport of sailing is the risk of permanent, catastrophic injury or death by drowning, trauma, hypothermia or other causes. Erieau Yacht Club assumes no liability or responsibility for any damage, loss, injury or death to any participant.
21 INSURANCE
21.1 Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance. The organizing authority does not accept any responsibility for verifying that a boat has valid third-party liability insurance.
